The "Mercury Drupal" application described in these documents is a high performance Drupal system is based on the work of Project Mercury. This project aims to increase the performance and ability of Drupal powered websites to respond to increased load. The procedure outlined in these documents varies slightly from the deployments created by the Pantheon Project Mercury StackScript for Linode; however, the systems described in these documents are designed to be easier to understand and maintain manually using conventional tools and methods. Additionally, this application stack leverages the same collection of popular open source tools as Pantheon Mercury. Components include the Varnish Accelerating Proxy, the APC bytecode cache for PHP, Memcached for accelerating database operations, and the Solr search engine.
